McCathern is saddened by the recent passing of Kathleen “Kathy” Braden, an outstanding attorney who spent valuable time at the firm with our Los Angeles office before she retired. Kathleen was an Of Counsel attorney with the law firm Braden, Hinchcliffe & Hawley, LLP when it merged with McCathern in April of 2014, and she played a critically important role in launching the newly formed McCathern L.A. office.
Kathleen’s legal career spanned over three decades, beginning as an associate at Grace, Numeyer & Otto before joining the firm that would become Dale, Braden & Hinchcliffe. As a Partner there and later at Braden, Hinchliffe & Hawley, Kathleen specialized in employment liability, fair housing claims, construction defect litigation, and products liability. Kathleen also mediated over 400 lawsuits for private parties and provided training to businesses on the prevention of sexual and other types of harassment. In addition, she served on panel counsel for the Los Angeles County Superior Court and on the arbitration panel for the Ventura County Superior Court.
“Many of us in the Los Angeles office worked with Kathy at Dale, Braden & Hinchcliffe and Braden, Hinchcliffe & Hawley, before the merger with McCathern,” said Kelli Hawley, a longtime friend and Partner of Kathy’s at multiple firms. “Kathy was instrumental in our success in establishing McCathern’s Los Angeles office. Though she retired from the practice of law, Kathy kept in touch, sharing her love for her grandchildren and her travels. We will miss her friendship and her professional support. We send our condolences to Kathy’s husband, Phil, her family, and her many friends.”
A memorial service for Kathleen is scheduled for this Saturday, August 19 at 11:00am at Lake Lindero Golf Course located at 5719 Lake Lindero Road in Agoura Hills, California. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Kathleen and her husband Phil’s home in Agoura Hills. Please RSVP via text to 310-612-2104 by Wednesday, August 16, 2023. No black will be allowed, and island wear encouraged.
